What do divorce, adultery, drug abuse, and suicide have in common?  Cowardice.  That probably sounds a little too harsh.  Let’s call it “fear”.  Fear of trying hard and failing anyway.  Fear of frustration.  Fear that one’s inabilities or incompetency will be exposed.  Fear of being identified as a failure.  Fear to face the difficulties of life.  Lack of confidence in one’s ability to overcome and succeed.

Some say divorce, drug abuse, and suicide are very bad solutions to ordinary problems, but they are not really solutions at all.  They are escapes.  Running away.  Wimping out.  Running off the battle field.  Going AWOL.  An escape from duty, from responsibility.

So, now that we know what the problem is, how do we solve it? Read the rest of this entry »

Challenge of the Week

3 07 2006

If we want to drive the divorce statistics down, we need to turn outward and help that happen all around us.  So, here is the challenge for this week.

  • Boycott Soap Operas
  • Get the word out on this site and others like it.

Like pornography, people who waste hours each week on soap operas program their minds to react instinctively in ways that are destructive to a family, and we see the soap opera mentality transferred to our children.  We see it in their babysitters and we see it lived out in the lives of those around us.

Secondly, these web sites are not about a PhD in an office giving counseling or a divorce attorney, but these sites are about normal ordinary people who care and want to make a difference.  Some, like me, have gone through painful divorces and that has enabled us to understand others who go through the same pain.  We know about the injustices and the harm divorce does because we have experienced it first hand.

Some of the other web sites I have been working on have much more material and have been around a lot longer.

Please link to these and consider putting your favorite into your email signature if you are interested in getting involved in this effort.

Thank you!!!
